It is now official, Indianapolis had the driest August on record, with only 0.37 inches of rain recorded. While some areas around the city had more rain, my garden did not. The weather has been very hot and extremely dry here in Central Indiana for the past 2 weeks. Heavy rain was scattered about, but none fell in my garden :-( Because of the heat, I have delayed planting out the broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower seedlings until today. I cannot wait any longer to get these [...] The weather here in Central Indiana has been very hot, but at least it has rained enough to keep the garden producing without much supplemental watering. The tomatoes have produced a decent harvest despite the leaf disease. I was able to put up 7 containers of tomato sauce a few days ago. There are still [...] Happy Independence Day!! The weather has finally turned more summer like. 5 days ago a bad storm went through the Indianapolis area and blew down all of the corn. As it turns out it was not all bad news as the corn was nearly ready to harvest anyways. The potato harvest from this new 20 inch high and 4 ft square plot was pretty good (see pics below). The nine Yukon Gold seed potatoes planted in this plot yielded nearly a full old beer box. Harvest has started on the spring planted cabbage, although the heads are a little smaller than normal, they still make very nice cole slaw.
